Synthesis of methamphetamine is possible by several methods. If desired, anyone who is relatively versed in chemistry can do it at home. One of the most popular ways to synthesize methamphetamine is to prepare it from crystalline iodine and red phosphorus. These substances are difficult to obtain, but you can make them yourself.

To make red phosphorus, you need 5 matchboxes and a 38% hydrochloric acid solution. Carefully scrape off the "teals" from the matchboxes and fill them with acid. We put the container in a water bath. The mixture will soon take on a muddy hue. Drain the acid, rinse with water, then repeat the procedure. The result should be 350 mg of red phosphorus.

One component received, now we need crystalline iodine. To do this, we take a 20 ml syringe, cork the end, make several holes in the piston of the syringe and wrap it with a piece of dense tissue. Pour 17 ml of iodine into the syringe, then 2 ml of water and add 12 drops of hydrochloric acid. Now shake a little and remove to settle. After we take the syringe and see that a translucent layer has formed in the upper part. Next, we take the piston and press, in the end you need to make even more efforts to completely displace moisture. After carefully remove the piston and shake out the settled iodine crystals on the newspaper. And that's it, the second element is also successfully received.

Now you need to heat the crystalline iodine, red phosphorus and ephedrine. The resulting mixture is then filtered, an alkaline solution is added thereto and extracted with a solvent. Thus, the base of methamphetamine is released, which resembles oil. By acting on it with ether or acetone and hydrochloric acid, the mixture can be crystallized.

You can also synthesize methamphetamine by reducing ephedrine, by dissolving some metal in ammonia. The reaction is based on the process of mixing ephedrine with liquid ammonia and lithium under high pressure. The mixture is then aged until the evaporation of ammonia vapor. The methamphetamine base is extracted with a solvent and filtered. In a clandestine laboratory, ordinary ammonia and battery-derived lithium are used. The methamphetamine obtained in this way is quite good in quality and purity, however, the synthesis process itself is fraught with danger, since ammonia is an explosive substance.

The essence of another method of synthesis, called the "Emde method", is to treat ephedrine with tianol chloride, as a result of which chlorephedrine is released. The resulting substance is hydrogenated with a platinum catalyst and as a result, methamphetamine is obtained.
