THC Injections Reduce Opiate Addiction. THC Injections Relieve Opiate Addiction

The scientists from France have found that injections of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) - the most effective psychoactive substance in cannabis inflorescences and leaves - can rid mice of addiction to opiates (morphine, heroin). In fact, mice are not addicted to opiates.

Specialists performed experiments on animals whose mother was separated for several hours every day during the period of development. The mouse, stressed by stress, is more likely to develop various psychiatric problems; for their study, such experimental models are used quite often. For their study, such experimental models are used quite often.

A previously published study showed that such animal also show a high susceptibility to the effects of morphine and heroin, as well as quickly becoming addicted to these substances.

This experiment was based on the idea of an unprecedented experiment, in which "adolescent" mice (from 35 to 48 days after birth), which are drug addicted, were regularly injected with a specific number of TCG (5 or 10 mg / kg). Scientists were surprised to note the absence of signs of dependence on morphine in adults.

The evidence was also confirmed by the results of biochemical studies: in striatum, an area on whose surface is used for drug addictive behaviors-the production of enkephalins (neurotransmitters that bind to similar receptors as opiates and control pain signals to brain) was restored. Also, in mice that did not receive THC, the volumes of enkephalin production were sharply reduced.

According to the data, as noted, it is possible to take into account new methods of substitution therapy, which is widely used for the treatment of drug addicts.
